About Community Ministries
As part of our mission, we’re encouraging our congregation to get OUT in the community and serve. Our Welfare program has many facets giving our members opportunities to give and serve.
Building relationships outside our church walls is at the core of our OUT mission. This group identifies the needs of our community and provides ways for members and groups to volunteer sand help out.
BASIC Nicaragua
A lay operated coalition of Lutheran churches that build houses, provide education, conduct vision clinics, and much more in Santa Patricia, a refugee camp, in Nicaragua. Once a year, St. Lukes members plan a mission trip to assist BASIC in their efforts.
Good Shepherd Clothes Closet
A community-based non-profit, Good Shepherd Clothes Closet takes donations of good, used clothing, shoes, blankets, sheet sets, towels, sleeping bags, and personal care items to distribute to the homeless and those in need in our community. We have a bin in our Fellowship Hall for donations.
Orphan Grain Train
A Christian volunteer network, Orphan Grain Train ships donated food, clothing, medical, and other needed items to people in 62 different countries, including the US.
Shared Harvest
Along with five other Lutheran churches, we collect, assemble, and distribute 82 bags of food to the needy living in motels on 4th Street once a month.
